Mad for Madwell

I actually made it to New York in the end which was pretty amazing.

Whilst there I fell back in love with Madwell's. It's slightly on the pricey side but, then again, who can put a price on true love. The store in Soho is one of the coolest stores I've been in too- it's like a really big vintage loft- and the store playlist is really good too. They've previously done collections with Alexa Chung, which is an endorsement in itself.

Here's a preview of what they have to offer...

Summer In New York

No unfortunately this post is not about my up and coming travel plans #I friggen wish. I'm currently loving the boat house-chic look that - weather prevailing- I shall hopefully be dawning this summer. Think the Strokes meets Gossip Girl and then has an affair with Alexa Chung.

Stripes, collared shirts and sweaters galore...

The Mod Club

Okay so maybe there has been a mass saturation of peter pan collars on the market as of late, but I for one am still loving mod mania. I think a peter pan collar can really make an outfit, or a 60's inspired eye liner, or even just a tiny dash of colour blocking. No we don't all want to look the same, but once you put your own personal spin on it you'll only look like you. There's no point denying a fashion trend just cos it's trend right?

Romwe.com  have the most amazing collars at the moment. Check them out at: http://www.romwe.com/accessories-detachable-collars-c-36_151.html?dh

Hilfiger are also chanelling their inner mod with this beautiful yellow number;

And I couldn't leave out Miss Alexa Chung and her statement winged out eye liner

And the rest....

Hair envy

RED HAIR

Red hair is everywhere at the moment, and with very good reason. It seems as though everyday another celeb is added to list of celebrities embracing auburn locks (Jessica Alba being the latest). And why not? It can make any hairstyle look edgy in an instant .While I won't be following the trend anytime soon (only because my hair's so damaged from an attempted ombre)  I really love the look. Cue the favourites.....

(I know Ashlee Simpson has since bleached her hair but I think you'll agree the red is so much nicer than her current look.)

Ireland's newest fashion magazine

Full to the brim with editorial photoshoots this magazine is definitely worth a look. While I it found the visuals better than the range of interviews, I really did like the magazine.

Even the introduction is interesting:

"....What is fashion? It's not just clothes. It is not just music, It is not just film. It is not just food. It is not just style. These things can only be in or out of fashion. Fashion itself is how we hide ourselves, and yet how we show ourselves. It is how we choose to live, and how others choose for us. It is the beginning of something, and the end of something. Fashion is everything. And absolutely nothing...."

Agreeing to disagree...

"Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable we have to alter it it every six months" - Oscar Wilde

I tend to disagree with Oscar Wilde on this point. As far as trends and the clothes horses of the world go - yes fashion can be vulgar. Someone names ten items of clothing that are deemed cool and the non-creative adorn these (and only these) for six continuous months. It is a way for the passive followers to unite themselves, define themselves and eventually wait for fashion to change so they can repeat the process.
This, however, does not apply to everyone. For some people fashion serves as a means of self-expression, of differentiating oneself from the masses or just a means of providing yourself with confidence. Of course everyone is partial to trends but fashion is about more than just trends, fashion is about incorporating the current with the timeless. Fashion is art and...

"Art is the most intense form of individualism that the world has ever known". - Oscar Wilde

The second of the style crushes

ANNA CALVI

Described by NME as "grown-up pop's darkest new gem", Anna Calvi definitely has a somewhat scary air about her. The west Londoner has a very distinct style, think dainty doll meets the girl from the grudge. She is truly unique- as well as possibly being one of the only people to date I have seen successfully pull off the dark eyes/ red lips combo. Truly one to watch....

An interesting read

An interesting commentary on the contemporary evolution of Irish fashion. Definitely worth a read if you get a chance.

The first of the style crushes....

JAMEELA JAMIL

She may very well just be a pretty girl that arrived to a T4 audition and moulded into the next Alexa Chung, but Jameela has an air of sincerity about her that makes her instantly likeable (from any interview I've come across anyway). Currently a presenter on T4, she is quickly catching up with her predecessor in the style stakes. Previous to her days on T4 Jameela worked as an english teacher and described her own personal style as "frumpy".  Since her rise to notoriety this frumpy look has been abandoned for a combination of red lipstick and polka-dots as well as leather jackets and suspender tights - not that I'm naive enough to believe she could have ever looked frumpy. From the bollywood inspired eye make-up to her low maintenance locks, Jameela is quickly becoming a go to girl in the style stakes.
